In the quiet moments of morning prayer, the Holy Spirit reminded me of the scripture in Psalms 127:3-5 and a profound metaphor emerged from the scriptures. Indeed, as children of God, we are arrows in the hand of an intentional warrior, purposefully crafted and divinely directed.
Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
Psalms 127: 3-5 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
We are not random or accidental, but strategically positioned instruments of divine intention. Nothing the LORD does is in vain. Even the words HE speaks are not voided by anything. The King James Version (KJV) of Isaiah 55 records:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Isaiah 55, King James Version
When a hunter or warrior points his arrow in a certain direction, there is a target that must be achieved. When God give you new life every day, there is a purpose. He doesn’t do it, just because He wants to or just because it is expected. He is intentional with our lives.
Our lives are not meant to be aimless wanderings, but targeted journeys with clear objectives. Like an arrow that flies true to its mark, we are called to seek and understand our unique assignment each day.
There is an assignment, and you must take the time to ask Him through prayer. This requires deliberate listening and constant attentiveness to the Holy Spirit’s gentle guidance.
The Holy Spirit is your teacher. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” (Isaiah 30:21)
Start with Intentional Prayer
Every breath is an opportunity, every moment a potential for meaningful connection and spiritual significance. Look out for those opportunities of influence and impact that GOD uses to transform people’s lives. Have a sense of His continual presence and direction.
The book, The Jabez Prayer Experiment Lab Manual by Jay Dennis and Marilyn Jeffcoat gives us a good place to start every morning:
“Lord, bless me indeed. Do something so big in my life that it is obviously from you. Increase my influence and opportunities for you, And give me a sense of your continual presence and direction. Protect me and keep me from falling into Satan’s traps. Amen.”
Try it today as you repurpose yourself into the arrow that accomplishes that for which it is sent because your life is not random. Your purpose is not accidental. You are intentionally crafted, lovingly aimed, and divinely guided.
You are an arrow in the Master’s hand, designed to pierce through darkness, bring light, and accomplish exactly what you were created to do.
